Solvtek

Solvtek, now in version 2.5, is a web application, developed by Tekima, that includes various utilities and is intended for technical studies with the aim of providing a tool that simplifies the sizing and selection of heat-shrink sheaths, conductors and cables. With Solvtek it is possible to determine the sizes of conductors and cables in complaince with the requirements defined by the NFPA 79 and NFPA 70 (NEC) standards according to the different editions that have been issued in recent years.
The application consists of several utilities:

  • Utility 1, allows you to identify the section of the conductor (in AWG or kcmil) and the nominal and maximum load applicable to conductors according to the NFPA 79 standard.
  •  Utility 2, allows you to identify the section of the conductor (in AWG or kcmil) and the nominal and maximum load applicable to the conductor according to the NPFA 70 (NEC) standard.
  • Utility 3, allows you to determine the voltage drop (Volt) of a conductor in relation to the length and section of the conductor itself (Voltage Drop rule).
  • Utility 4, allows you to determine the minimum conductor section in relation to its length and the permitted voltage drop (Voltage Drop rule).
  • Utility 5, allows you to determine the maximum length of the conductor in relation to its section and to the permitted voltage drop (Voltage Drop rule).
  • Utility 6, allows you to determine the maximum load of the conductor in relation to the section, the length of the conductor and the permitted voltage drop (Voltage Drop rule).
  • Utility 7, allows you to estimate the diameter of a bundle of cables once the diameters of the wires it is made up of are known and to search for the most suitable cable tie.
  • Utility 8, allows you to identify the heat shrink sheath based on the 80:20 rule, the sheath must be able to shrink at least 20% and no more than 80% of its total shrinkage capacity.
  • Utility 9, allows you to identify the raceway (rigid or flexible, metal and non-metallic pipe) that is most suitable according to the requirements set out in the NFPA70 and NFPA79 standards.

Solvtek performs its calculations in compliance with regulatory requirements, however it cannot take into consideration any constraints that are due to the individual industrial applications; therefore, we suggest always referring to the sections on sizing included in the reference standards.
